DIY Advent Calendar

Yesterday I shared my project for our Christmas themed Mini Blog Hop. I had this project in mind for a while. The inspiration came from Alison Okamitsu’s beautiful advent calendar cleverly using the Kraft Pillow Boxes cut in half and mounted with Gold Library Clips.

I took a piece of cardboard that comes with some papers, and covered it with a piece of Festive Farmhouse DSP.

I then cut my pillow boxes in half, folded the bottom half up and popped a gold clip on top of each.

Next I punched some small circles out of Whisper White card using a circle punch.

I then stamped numbers 1-24 using Pick a Pennant stamp set in Real Red.

I used two cardboard pieces put together (both with the same DSP on) to fit all 24 boxes on and had room for a little a snow scene at the bottom of my calendar.

For this I cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock using the large Swirly Scribbles framelit.

I used Embossing Paste to give it texture. Then added my Signs of Santa characters that I had cut and coloured using Stampin’ Blends.

I cut more circles using Real Red cardstock with a slightly larger circle punch, and popped these behind my numbers. I thought these would stand out more than the numbers on white alone.

For the title I embossed the word Christmas in White Embossing Powder using the Lined Alphabet stamp set on Real Red card and cut them out.

I also stamped 2018 using Pick a Pennant, again in Real Red ink on Whisper White card. I used the offcuts of the white card from punching circles to cut snowflakes using the Santa’s Signpost Framelits. Finishing them with Frosted Epoxy Droplets and some glittery bells I had in my craft room.

In order to be able to hang my calendar, I sellotaped the two pieces of card together at the back, and used a hole punch at the top to create small holes to put twine through.

I love the finished result, it’s even better than what I had in my mind. I can’t believe how perfectly the boxes fit on these two pieces of cardboard. It’s like it was meant to be. Goes to show, always listen to your inner creative voice, and believe in your vision 🙏🏼✨❤️
